At work on my painting, Standing Tall.

I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember.  My childhood fascination with birds, wildlife, and landscapes has never died.  Since high school, I have painted mostly indoors, working in acrylic.  More recently, however, I have found that I prefer to work outside, painting directly from life.  I believe that painting this way often gives better results than when I'm relying entirely on photographs for reference.  To me, the whole experience of being in the moment, and hearing, seeing, and feeling it is much more rewarding and motivating.  It allows me to paint what I feel, and not just what I see.

Painting on location while traveling requires me to limit what I pack and to be able to set up and tear down quickly.  For this reason, I have recently been working mostly in watercolor and gouache.  Much of what I do is quick sketches when the time permits, but I hope to use these sketches as references for future paintings.

I hope that my work will be both uplifting and inspiring, and that it will bring glory to the One who created the amazing world we live in.
